There are quite a bit of StumbleUpon, Reddit, Digg, Mixx imitation websites out there now, and they are having a lot of success by being targeted to specific niches.
For example you have DesignBump.com for design related content, BloggerDen.com for bloggers, SportsAG.com for sports related websites. You can find hundreds of these websites now, and most of them are based on the Free Open Source system called Pligg.
The greatest part about these types of websites, is that you just need to set it up and do some advertising to get it started, and then the users fuel your content.
