Jay-Z's "On To The Next One" a great business song.

Whether you are a fan of Jay-Z or not, or even of his style of music, doesn’t really matter, as the important thing here are the lyrics to this particular song. Those who want to learn more about music and business and how they impact each other can find information via accredited online colleges.

Some claim that this song and it’s video represents Jay-Z’s association with the Illuminati or the New World Order, and that may be true, but you can’t deny how much some of the words in this song are what all of us starting our own business strive for!

I have written some of the key quotes relating to what I’m talking about and also added the video from YouTube so you can also watch it if you please.

You can see the full lyrics for the song at MetroLyrics.

There are two obvious lines right off the bat, that are part of the chorus, the first one being:

I got a million ways to get it, choose one

Basically he’s talking about ways to get money, and this concept is pretty much the same for web workers in general as there are tons and tons of ways to get money online.

The second line which is part of the chorus as well is:

Now double your money and make a stack

Pretty straight forward, whenever you set a goal and you reach it, your next goal should be to double your first.

At one point he says:

Used to rock a throwback ballin’ on the corner, now I rock a teller suit, lookin’ like an owner

For people working online from home, the first half pretty much translate to used to (or still am) work in PJs in my basement, and the second half can stay the same or adapt to whatever your goal is, whether you have achieved it or not.

One of the greatest lines, which I relate to when you become really successful at working your own business and you can quit your full time job is this:

Baby, I’m a boss, I don’t know what they do, I don’t get dropped, I drop the label

Unfortunately this next one doesn’t apply to everyone, and hopefully it applies to the least amount of people possible, but we all have had people doubt us, or be negative to us, well this one is for those occasions:

Haters really gonna be mad off my next deal, I don’t know why they worry about my pockets

The last quote I really like, is when things are working, and your getting all kinds of positive feedback, from important people, doesn’t have to be superstar people like Jay mentions but just someone important to you, like the people he mentions are important to him:

Meanwhile I had Oprah chillin’ in the projects (…) MJ at Summer Jam, Obama on the text

One thing that is constant throughout the whole song is that like trends, business online is always changing and you got to keep moving, or keep going on to the next one if you want to remain succesful. That’s a great business lesson to get from a song.

Here is the video I promised you:

There are definitely more in the song. Which others have you found?
