Most important rule for a social media optimized logo design.

When I did the redesign of DeuceGroup.com and the companies whole brand, I knew I needed to be careful with the logo because the old brand caused a problem I didn’t want to face again.
The problem was my logo was too long and narrow, that was a problem because in the new world wide web, the social media sites are dominating and are key to promoting your brand, products or services.
Most of these social networking websites let you upload a a picture or avatar as they can be called, and most of the time these are square and aren’t that big so if your logo is long and narrow it won’t be visually appealing in a square and may even be hard to decipher.
For example the old logo for Deuce Group was this:
If I tried putting that on a social media website as a profile picture or avatar, then it would be too small to make out and would have too much white space around it, so I ended up creating something like this as a secondary logo:
As you can see my new logo on the top left of the screen is much more effective, but honestly it is still a little long compared to it’s height, it didn’t look write with the theme of the website to not have it longer than it’s height, so again I created a different one for those social networking profiles, which looks like this:
