10 Ways to Save Money for 2012

We have already passed the first ten day of 2012, and one of the Christmas gifts I got from one of my great friends is a “page-a-day” calendar that focuses on saving money.

I figured I would share the first 10 days with you, and probably more as the year goes on, because lets face it, who doesn’t want or need to save money.

Some of these don’t save you much, but others can, in the end it all adds up, so try and follow as many of these as your can!

1. Say No To TV Advertisers: Stop yourself from saying “I want that product!”, always push the mute button during commercials.
2. Squeezing $$ From Tubes: Cut open “empty” tubes to get the last drops of toothpaste, face creams, ointments, sunscreens, etc. Often a week’s worth of product is still inside.
3. Money-Saving Motto “Don’t Ever Buy Bottled Water”: North American cities have tap water that’s just as good as bottled water.
4. Stop Smoking Now: A pack-a-day habit costs at least $1,800 per year… and then there’s your health and quality of life to consider.
5. Borrow, Don’t Buy: …CDs, DVDs. Set up a lending library with your friends or co-workers listing the music and movie discs you’re all happy to lend out.
6. Money-Saving Motto: Do NOT buy cars new. A new car loses 30% of its value as it’s driven off the lot. Save thousands of dollars by paying a trustworthy mechanic to inspect a used car for you.
7. Saving Electricity = Saving Money: Just do it! Make it a habit to turn off the lights in the rooms of your house that you are not occupying.
8. Don’t Be Scared Of The Word Budget: Make yourself a spending plan so that you spending your money on important things that you “need” versus what you “want”.
9. Check With Your Car Or Home Insurance Company: If you pay your entire year up front, will they give you a good discount?
10. Try Buying Big-Ticket Items Online: On websites such as Craigslist you often find people who want a quick sale on nearly-new furniture or appliances.
